American Kennel Club's Herding Group
There are roughly sixty six Herding Breeds worldwide. But, The
American Kennel Club only recognizes twenty five breeds in their Herding
Group. They are the Australian Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherd, Bearded
Collie, Beauceron, Belgian Malinois, Belgian Sheepdog, Belgian Tervuren,
Border Collie, Bouvier des Flandres, Briard, Canaan Dog, Cardigan Welsh Corgi,
Collie, Entlebucher Mountain Dog, Finnish Lapphund, German Shepherd, Icelandic
Sheepdog, Norwegian Buhund, Old English Sheepdog, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Polish
Lowland Sheepdog, Puli, Pyrenean Shepherd, Shetland Sheepdog and Swedish
Vallhund. These dogs work closely with humans in caring for their livestock,
which made them and valuable in earlier times. The herding breed is still used
today on large cattle and sheep ranches.
